Countdown to Mom's Big Hike...and photos from Hikes 31 and 32 :)

Prayers Hiked:

Vernessa Wadsworth-Karisch
Denise Vanacore
and 4 more.

The past couple of hikes have been really amazing. Every hike is pretty incredible, to be honest, but each difficult step of Hike 31 and 32 was filled with the excitement of anticipating the BIG hike that is about to happen next Saturday, July 26th, 2014.

My mom, dad, and some close friends are flying to L.A. in a few short days, and on Saturday morning we will all hike together to The Survival Tree to celebrate and thank God for my mom's healing and recovery.

Exactly one year ago - literally - my mom visited me in California to hang out and help me get settled in my new apartment.

We bought groceries, attempted to ghetto-rig some blinds to block the light shining through my bedroom window, unsuccessfully braved the crowds at the Santa Monica Promenade, and we hiked.

We hiked - without a clue that in just three days my mom would receive the phone call with the news of her breast cancer diagnosis. We hiked - unknowingly, up the same trail that I would soon begin hiking daily in order to deliver her prayers to her Prayer Box. We hiked - with no way of knowing that exactly a year later, we would be hiking up the same trail again, with a purpose and significance beyond words or imagination. A trail that has now been traveled countless times in search of answers, questions, meaning, healing, and hope. A trail that now leads to the hidden home of almost 200 of your prayers.

When we stand on top of the mountain next Saturday and reflect on the past year, it is going to be, in a word, incredible.

Please keep us in your prayers as we make our uphill journey next week. I sincerely thank you all for your support and participation in Project Prayer Box. This is a big moment for my family and me, and you all are very much a part of it.

Here are some pics from the last couple of hikes (31 and 32). And please, keep sending your prayers to www.projectprayerbox.com. Though my mom's story will soon be coming full circle, this project is just getting started. :)

By the Survival Tree Again!! Hikes 29 and 30!

Prayers Hiked:

Z SanMiguel
and 3 more.

After the amazing discovery that the fence has been removed from the area surrounding The Survival Tree (WATCH this video from the day I discovered it was gone) , I was so incredibly happy to finally be able to stand in the tree's shadow for the first time in several months!

Although the area has been completely flattened and all of the plants and bushes have been removed, it is still amazing to be able to stand in the exact spot where my mom's Prayer Box was hidden for nearly five months!

On Saturday, July 26th, 2014, my mom will be able to hike up the mountain and stand underneath The Survival Tree to say a prayer of thanks for her healing! I will keep you all posted with pictures and video of our amazing hike!

And as always, keep sending your prayers to www.projectprayerbox.com.

[VIDEO] The Fence is Gone! Hikes 27 and 28.

Prayers Hiked:

Sherry
and 2 more.

This entire project, the entire journey, has been something that is bigger than me. Something that is hard for me to explain sometimes. Something that is beyond anything I could've ever imagined for myself just one short year ago.

On yesterday's hike, I was reminded once again of the fact that something bigger is going on here, that I have no control over, and that is moving and working and guiding this project along.

As you might remember, on my very first hike of Project Prayer Box, I reached the top of the mountain to discover that the area near The Survival Tree had become a construction zone and was completely fenced off. This not only meant that the area surrounding the tree, where my mom's prayer box was hidden, was destroyed, but it also meant that I could no longer access the area near the tree.

But then, on yesterday's Hike 28, WATCH what happened:

The fence has been completely removed! Which means that in two short weeks, when my mom is planning to fly from Texas to L.A. to do "the hike", we will be able to stand in the exact spot where her prayer box was hidden and say a prayer of thanks for her healing and recovery! Pretty amazing :).

Off of the Trail! Hikes 25 and 26

Prayers Hiked:

Liz
Jessie
and 3 more.

Hikes 25 and 26 were super fun! I got a little bit adventurous and hiked up an "unofficial trail" one day. Which I will definitely NOT be doing again, considering I literally had to sit and scoot back down because it was SO STEEP! But the reason I attempted is in order to get this view of The Survival Tree:

This may not seem like the most ideal view, however it has been a really long time since I have been able to see the tree and the surrounding area underneath. To refresh your memory, this is the tree that survived a wild fire several years ago, under which I hid my mom's Prayer Box. I named it The Survival Tree, and on the first official hike of Project Prayer Box, I arrived to discover that they had begun construction and had wiped out everything surrounding the tree.

Watch this video of Hike 1 - you'll never believe what happened!

As you can see, my mom's Prayer Box was miraculously still there! It felt really amazing on Hike 26 to be able to see The Survival Tree from the same viewpoint as I used to see it when I was delivering my mom's prayers. I hope they remove the fences soon so I am able to stand once again in its shadow! Keep your prayers coming! :)

[VIDEO] The Napkin Prayer and Hike 24

Prayers Hiked:

Jen Fetter
Lee Poquette
and 2 more.

I've been in Houston for the past ten days or so performing. At one of my last shows in town, someone walked up to me and handed me a napkin with writing on it. Typically, handwriting on a napkin at one of my shows symbolizes a song request, normally a very awful song request, so I didn't think much of it.

That is, until she leaned forward and whispered, "It's a prayer".

A huge smile came across my face, as I, in that moment, came to the realization that this project is still growing, even when I'm miles away from the Prayer Box. That hope is still spreading, even on days when I'm unable to physically hike. And that God is still moving, even when (especially when), I may not understand what He's moving me toward.

I flew back to L.A. the following morning, and was thrilled to get back on the mountain. Here's a short video about Hike 24:

As you could see from the video, I took a fall while trying to get up toward the Box! I'll take a scraped knee over a rattlesnake bite any day, though :).
