Off of the Trail! Hikes 25 and 26

Prayers Hiked:

Liz
Jessie
and 3 more.

Hikes 25 and 26 were super fun! I got a little bit adventurous and hiked up an "unofficial trail" one day. Which I will definitely NOT be doing again, considering I literally had to sit and scoot back down because it was SO STEEP! But the reason I attempted is in order to get this view of The Survival Tree:

This may not seem like the most ideal view, however it has been a really long time since I have been able to see the tree and the surrounding area underneath. To refresh your memory, this is the tree that survived a wild fire several years ago, under which I hid my mom's Prayer Box. I named it The Survival Tree, and on the first official hike of Project Prayer Box, I arrived to discover that they had begun construction and had wiped out everything surrounding the tree.

Watch this video of Hike 1 - you'll never believe what happened!

As you can see, my mom's Prayer Box was miraculously still there! It felt really amazing on Hike 26 to be able to see The Survival Tree from the same viewpoint as I used to see it when I was delivering my mom's prayers. I hope they remove the fences soon so I am able to stand once again in its shadow! Keep your prayers coming! :)

[VIDEO] The Napkin Prayer and Hike 24

Prayers Hiked:

Jen Fetter
Lee Poquette
and 2 more.

I've been in Houston for the past ten days or so performing. At one of my last shows in town, someone walked up to me and handed me a napkin with writing on it. Typically, handwriting on a napkin at one of my shows symbolizes a song request, normally a very awful song request, so I didn't think much of it.

That is, until she leaned forward and whispered, "It's a prayer".

A huge smile came across my face, as I, in that moment, came to the realization that this project is still growing, even when I'm miles away from the Prayer Box. That hope is still spreading, even on days when I'm unable to physically hike. And that God is still moving, even when (especially when), I may not understand what He's moving me toward.

I flew back to L.A. the following morning, and was thrilled to get back on the mountain. Here's a short video about Hike 24:

As you could see from the video, I took a fall while trying to get up toward the Box! I'll take a scraped knee over a rattlesnake bite any day, though :).

23 Hikes!

Prayers Hiked:

Julie
Christina
and 1 more.

Hike 23 was really beautiful, and it was nice to be on the mountain one last time before my trip to Houston. (I fly to Houston once a month or so in order to sing - check out my schedule here!). Below are a couple of pics of me on the trail!

Hike 22!

Prayers Hiked:

Nora Reeves
Charla

Hike 22 was a good one for many reasons, but the main one is that I have a new haircut that makes it much cooler!

I made my way up to the Prayer Box and hid your prayers inside.

One of the prayers I hiked was from Charla, a woman that works with my mom. She has started something that she calls The Chalk Walk, and it is a really neat prayer project. You can read about her journey here: www.hespeakswelisten.wordpress.com. She even prayed for Project Prayer Box on a recent walk!

One Year in L.A. - Hike 21! (6/8/14)

Prayers Hiked:

Thelma
Andrea

Yesterday marked the one year anniversary of my move to Los Angeles from Houston. It was an amazing feeling to finally reach the top of the mountain and just stop and reflect on what an incredible, difficult, wonderful, and challenging year that it has been.

My mom's breast cancer diagnosis surprised everyone, and was a very high "mountain" for my family and me to face. It seemed impossible to climb at times. But here we are one year later with so many things to be thankful for, and a breathtakingly beautiful view. Thank you all for your prayers and support, and for being a part of this project. Below are some pictures from the hike. Hike 21!!!

[VIDEO] Adrian Bourgeois joins me for Hike 20! (6/5/14)

Prayers Hiked:

Adrian Bourgeois
Lou Ann
Kathy Moreland
Kristen
and 3 more.

"Every great endeavor is accomplished together".

I'm not entirely sure who that quote belongs to, but it was used in a recent service by Erwin McManus, pastor of Mosaic church here in L.A., and it sure does make a lot of sense to me. I had already decided to start opening up Project Prayer Box to other people by inviting them to hike with me (among other ideas I've got floating around), but when I heard Erwin say those words about joining together to accomplish great things, I knew it was time.

And so, yesterday morning (well, morning in musician hours), my friend/roommate/bandmate Adrian Bourgeois and I set out on the trail for Hike #20, with your prayers in my backpack and in Adrian's pocket!

Watch this video to see the hike and hear Adrian talk about his prayer and what faith means to him:

We made it up to the the Prayer Box with your prayers, and Adrian, although terrified of the threat of a snake bite, hid them inside.

If you are interested in hiking with me or would like your story/prayer featured in a video, please email me at projectprayerbox@gmail.com or through the contact form on my website. Seriously. I would love to hear your ideas and get you guys involved in this process. Adrian and I were honored to hike these prayers for you. Wishing you all hope and healing.

19th Hike! Back on the Mountain.

Prayers Hiked:

Dawn Johnson
Kati Andrus
and 1 more.

After being in Houston for about ten days, I flew back to L.A. yesterday and set out on the trail this morning for Hike 19. One change that has occurred since I last hiked is that they are actually beginning to build the new radio tower by The Survival Tree, as you can see from the massive crane on the mountaintop. This excites me because I miss being able to go down and stand by the tree! I'm ready for them to be DONE, already.

Fortunately, the Prayer Box was still there. Before I left L.A. to go to Houston, the wind had been blowing the Prayer Box away from its hiding spot. My brilliant solution was to fill the box with rocks. Haha. Which seemed to have done the trick.
