Hikes 7 and 8 (4/13/14 and 4/15/14)

Prayers Hiked:

Kim
Lisa
Margaret
Christiane
and 2 more.

Over the weekend I was in Chicago, which was super fun! You may have seen this post on my Facebook page, but I left Project Prayer Box cards in bathrooms at airports, restaurants, and pretty much anywhere I could think of along the way! :)

So needless to say, I was excited to get back to L.A. and start hiking again!

The weather's getting a little bit warmer here (although nothing compared to Houston heat, so I won't complain!). But I made it each day up to the Prayer Box and delivered your prayers.

It is so exciting to see this project growing, and I can't wait to see the places it will go. Please continue telling people you know who may be encouraged by sending me a prayer. (Simply direct them to www.projectprayerbox.com).

Hikes 5 and 6. [VIDEO] (4/8/14 and 4/9/14)

Prayers Hiked:

Christian
and 4 more.

Yesterday and today's hikes were quite eventful. Here's a short video I put together:

I set out each day with your prayers in my backpack, and was ready for the trek ahead.

I saw a massive snake yesterday, which was extremely disturbing! Eeeeeeeek!

Once I got to the top, I decided to go near The Survival Tree to check on the construction site. It's really sad to see that whole area so flattened and filled with machinery. :(

But both days, I made it to the new Prayer Box and delivered the prayers. Today's hike makes exactly 60 prayers that I have hiked so far. Awesome. My hope is that I will hike 600 more! :)

Hike 4. (4/6/14)

Prayers Hiked:

Sandra Semaan
Sarah Korschgen
Lori
Lynnette
and 8 more.

Today's hike was awesome! I set out around 1:00pm, a bit later than normal because I had a show last night in Phoenix. Adrian, my roommate/bandmate, and I drove back to LA in the middle of the night. Against both of our unknowing parents' wishes, I am certain. Sorry. :)

I decided to listen to the old hiking mix I used when I did the hikes for my mom. A little Sheryl Crow,
OneRepublic, Shiny Toy Guns, Nikka Costa, and YES that is Rihanna you see peaking out at the top. No shame.

It was nice to set out a little later - beautiful day and lots of people on the trail!

Took me about an hour and a half, but I finally made it up to the Prayer Box with your prayers.

I put them safe in the box and headed back down! Happy Sunday!

Day 3 of the project and your prayers just keep coming! Was a bit chilly this morning, but it took about two seconds of hiking for me to be a sweaty mess!

I was also walking extremely fast today due to the snake warning that greeted me at the trailhead.

One of the greatest parts of today's hike was that I found out that The Survival Tree, where I had hidden my mom's Prayer Box for many months, was not, in fact, going to be removed from the mountaintop! If you don't know what I'm talking about, watch the video of what happened on Day 1, just a few days ago. The area where I had hidden my mom's Prayer Box was completely demolished, but somehow, the box was still there!

I was concerned that The Survival Tree would be removed along with everything else due to the construction. But alas, I was told today that the tree is totally safe. Actually the construction worker's exact words were, "That's a  #!@-ing grandpa tree. We'd never remove it." Thank you, sir, for clarifying.

Hike 2 - 4/3/14

Hiked Prayers:

Kristin Pitts
Damey
Angie
Jon
Kim Clinard
Cindy Gatchell
Cicely Taylor
Dawn Johnson
and 6 more.

After yesterday's eventful hike, I was a bit scared for what today's hike had in store! But, thank goodness, things went smoothly today!

I woke up and made a new Prayer Box for this project, printed out some of your prayers, and got to hiking..

Once I made it to the top, I searched around for a new hiding spot that wasn't, for example, in a construction zone. I even had a few signs to point the way!

Finally, I found the perfect spot to hide the box, with your prayers inside!

I think I've decided that for each hike, I will post excerpts of some of the prayers for that day. So, below are some of today's prayers:

The First Hike 4/2/14 [VIDEO]

Hiked Prayers:

Morgan
Patty Radloff
Janet Randolph
Jennifer and Caroline Chapman
Amy Paik
and 4 more.

So, this first hike didn't go as I had envisioned it. Like, at all. I am torn between whether this is a tragedy or a miracle. Ha. But life is like that, though, I suppose. Anyway, here's video of what happened.

To start from the beginning, I was super excited to begin this journey with you all today. It took me a while to figure out my system of how to print out all of the prayers, how to organize them, etc., but after that I was good to go, and set out for the trail.

As with most of my hikes for my mom, I spent much of my time on the way up just thinking about the prayers and, I guess, praying for the prayers. If that's even possible! :) The hike takes about an hour to get to the top, so I was relieved when I started getting closer and could see the end in sight! Remember, I've been in Houston for a couple of weeks, leading to a sharp decline in my fitness level. Ha.

But as I neared the Survival Tree, I noticed a fence that I had never seen before. It didn't concern me until I climbed a bit further and realized that it was surrounding the entire area of the tree. Even worse, I then noticed big signs reading "Construction Zone", "Hard Hat Area", and "Keep Out". I most certainly would not keep out.

I darted past the signs towards the tree, and my heart absolutely sank. There was a bulldozer and the entire area under the tree had been wiped out. Torn apart. Gone. I just knew in that instant that the prayer boxes were gone. And I say prayer box-es because not only had I hidden the new box for this project to hide your prayers in, but my mom's prayer box was still up there. We planned for her to fly out here this summer to do the hike and bring it down. Today, however, I was certain that it was gone. But people, you are not even going to believe. My mom's Prayer Box, much like the Survival Tree, somehow managed to escape harm's way, and was sitting there under some rubble. I grabbed my mom's prayer box just before the city workers kicked me out of the area. Seriously.

Unfortunately, the Prayer Box I had hidden for this project did not survive the construction zone catastrophe, and was nowhere in sight. Although it is a little disheartening that the new Prayer Box is gone, I am so thankful that, first of all, there weren't even any prayers in it yet! I am also so thankful that my mom's box was safe, and I was able to bring it down. In a way, there's something beautiful about the fact that just four days after my mom's big cancer-free celebration, I brought her prayers down the mountain, out of harm's way, all of them answered. Had the construction started at any point during the eight months that her box was hidden up there, I would have been devastated.

So what now? Well, people, this project is gonna need another box! Tomorrow morning I'll make another one, hide it on the mountain, and hike more of your prayers up to it. Easy as that!

Because many of your prayers did actually make it up the mountain today, I'd like to post excerpts from some of them. They'll be safe in the box tomorrow!

Paige
